Dilsukhnagar: Concern over the Dilsukhnagar couple's haunting case
Dil Sukh Nagar in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state , was the scene of two widespread bomb blasts on February 21, 2013, at around 7 pm . The twin blasts took place at the bus stand near Venkatadri Theatre under Malakpet Police Station, and at Mirchi Centre near Konark Theatre. In these attacks, 18 people died on the spot and more than 131 were seriously injured. The incident has caused a stir across the country. After this terrorist attack on helpless civilians, questions have been raised about the security system across the country.

A 12-year fight for justice
The trial of these attacks has been going on for a long time. After almost 12 years, the Telangana High Court has given a historic verdict in this case. The court has taken a key decision by awarding death penalty to five accused of the Indian Mujahideen terrorist organization. The accused who were sentenced to death in this case are Yasin Bhatkal (co-founder of Indian Mujahideen), Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi, Zia ur Rehman alias Waghas, Tahseen Akhtar alias Monu, and Ajaz Sheikh alias Samar. These five were sentenced to death by the NIA special court in December 2016. However, they challenged this verdict in the High Court. The High Court has conducted a trial in this case for seven years, examined all the evidence and now issued the final verdict.
Key points in the NIA investigation
After the blasts, the Saroor Nagar police registered a case. However, due to the importance of the incident, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) stepped in. It was found that the Indian Mujahideen terrorist organization was responsible for these attacks. The accused planted bombs in tiffin boxes and created a terrible carnage. The NIA examined 157 witnesses in the investigation. Based on their statements, technical evidence, and telecommunication information between the accused, a legal case was built against the accused. The main mastermind of these attacks is Riyaz Bakhtal. He is from Karnataka. It is reported that he is currently in Pakistan. He is the mastermind behind many blasts. His arrest has not been possible so far. In 2013, Yasin Bhatkal and Asadullah Akhtar were arrested on the Indo-Nepal border. Based on the information received from them, Tahsin Akhtar, Zia ur Rehman, and Ajaz Sheikh were linked and arrested in 2014. Their confessions and evidence during interrogation led to a legal trial in a special NIA court.
Deceased accused: Syed Maqbool
Another key figure in the blasts case, Syed Maqbool, died of illness in Cherlapalli jail last year. His hometown is Nanded in Maharashtra. He played a key role in the blasts in Varanasi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad. This verdict can be seen as a sign of justice for the country's security system and the victims. The High Court's verdict is a sign that terrorist activities should be punished accordingly.
