Tuberculosis (TB): India has the highest number of TB cases in the world – Researchers
Although the prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) is gradually decreasing worldwide, there is a worrying situation in India. Several health experts and researchers participated in the recently started conference on TB in Hyderabad. On this occasion, they clarified that the highest number of TB cases are being registered in India. They said that the high number of TB cases in India compared to other countries in the world is a matter of concern.
3 lakh deaths in 2023
According to the experts at the conference, more than 3 lakh people lost their lives due to TB in India in 2023 alone. They said that these deaths could be prevented if detected early and treated on time. Although TB is a completely preventable disease, its impact continues due to lack of proper awareness and lack of access to appropriate treatment.
A collective fight against TB is needed
Researchers suggest that to win against TB, the government, health institutions, social workers, and the public – everyone needs to work together. They say that more awareness needs to be created in rural areas, and tests and medicines need to be made available. They say that controlling TB has become a challenge in a country with a large population like India. “It is time to move forward with the goal of a ‘TB-free India,’” the experts said.
