Vanajeevi Ramaiah: Noted social activist and nature lover 'Vanajeevi' Ramaiah, who spent his entire life planting trees, is no more . He had been suffering from illness for some time and passed away while undergoing treatment at a government hospital.Over a crore plantsThe Central Government also honored him with the Padma Shri award for his efforts in environmental conservation through planting trees.

Planting trees wherever there is an empty space
Ramaiah's hometown is Muthagudem Daripalli in Khammam Rural Mandal. He studied here till the fifth standard. At that time, the lessons on plant cultivation given by Mallesham Sir influenced Ramaiah greatly. Then, Ramaiah's family shifted to Reddypalli at a young age for the sake of farming. Inspired by Mallesham Sir's lessons, he planted trees in the 40-acre plot of land in his house and the remaining land where the house was located and grew them vigorously. From there.. for 43 years, wherever he found empty spaces on the roadsides, government offices, private places, temples.. it became Ramaiah's daily routine to plant trees there. He worked tirelessly for afforestation by profession, making pots and selling milk.
Plant names for grandchildren!
Ramaiah has a wife, Janamma, and four children. While carrying the burden of the family, he has been planting trees for more than four decades. What is special is that he has named his grandchildren after trees. One of them is named Chandanapushpa. Another granddaughter is named Haritha Lavanya. He named another baby Kabandhapushpa. Vanajeevi Ramaiah named another granddaughter Vanashree.
